Tusc Moms

I've seen/heard of people using the broken pieces of crayons to make new ones and was wondering if anyone knows how to do this and has tips/warnings about it?!  I think you can put them in a muffin pan and heat them in the oven but I am scared I will ruin my muffin pan!  Also, what temp do you use and how long do you bake them??  Any info would be great.

Thanks!

I've seen a Crayola crayon maker at Wal-Mart where you take broken crayons and make new/whole ones again. I think it uses a light bulb to melt the crayons then you pour them into molds. I guess if you were to melt them in the oven it would be on a really low temp. I've never really thought about it.
I saw something on this just in the past few months in either Parents or Parenting. I'd check crayola.com. And in the meantime, I'll see if I can dig up that old article. I am pretty sure I clipped it out!
Got it! Put the broken pieces in baking molds and bake at 300 degrees for about ten minutes, or until the pieces are completely melted.

Have fun!!!

Have lots of crayon stubs that are too small to hold on to? Don't throw them out! You can use them to create big, chunky crayons – and your kids can help.

Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: 25 minutes

Here's How:

1.Gather up all of your broken crayons, and cut them into small pieces. (An adult will need to complete this step.)

2.Preheat the oven to 150 degrees.

3.Fill the muffin tin with an inch-thick layer of crayon pieces.

4.Bake 15-20 minutes, or until the wax is melted.

5.Allow the tin to cool; then pop out the crayons, and they're ready for use.
