Hey everyone!  Hope u r all doing well. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a great pediatric dermatologist. My daughter has marks on her eye lip and forehead they told me were bruises and would go away in two weeks. It's been four and they are still there!  Did anyone else have this issue?  Does anyone know a great pediatric dermatologist?

Alabama Dermatology Associates will do a consult on children. We took our daughter there when she was just a week or two old. Dr. Karen Walker is wonderful, but she just left on maternity leave. Dr. Jeffrey Weeks is great too though.

For an actual pediatric dermatologist you'll have to go to Birmingham. We saw a lady at Children's Hospital in Bham. I'll say that her bedside manner left MUCh to be desired, but apparently they are good at what they do. I would start local though - it took us 6 months to get an appt at Children's.
My youngest has Ichthyosis (a genetic skin disorder) and sees Dr. Amy Theos at Children's in Birmingham. I've heard others say that her bedside manner isn't the best (possibly who Moozle is referring to), but we haven't had a problem with her. She's been wonderful about emailing and phone calls to check on Annalie, and she even helped us with getting free Aquaphor from the manufacturer. We see Dr. Theos every 3-6 months and will continue to drive to B'ham to see her even though we've moved to Montgomery.
Are the marks on her face red? How old is she? Annalie was born with red marks on one eyelid and on her forehead. We assumed they were "angel kisses" or what-have-you, and they went away within 6-9 months.
Karen - YES, Amy Theos. I couldn't remember her name. Like I said, I have heard excellent things about her reputation.

Our issue was that Amelia was born with a very small nevus on her forehead. It basically looks like a small scab, and it's in the middle of her "angel kiss" birthmark, so it's not very noticeable. However, research had shown that it leads to an increased risk of cancer if not eventually removed, so we were very concerned. Dr. Theos basically told me that to remove it this young would be because of my own desire to alter her cosmetically, etc etc. I think she is just so used to seeing much more serious cases, and to be fair, there probably are people who only want things done for cosmetic reasons. I was very concerned, though, and felt a little like I wasn't being taken seriously.

Anyway, all that to say that I have heard nothing but good things about her, and bedside manner isn't as important as knowing your stuff anyway :-) Keep us posted!

Thanks for the referral moozle!  I called and dr weeks is the only dr taking new patients (bc like u said dr walker is on leave). The first available appt is January!  They must be great!  :). The receptionist was really nice and told me I could call back anytime and check for cancellations!

They are red. She has a big one on her right eyelid that goes across to her brow, a long one on her forehead, and two smaller ones above her lip. She's a month old. I've read about the angel kisses and I think that's what they are. But I did read that if they are birthmarks it could mean brain/eye disease so I definitely want to get them checked. When do you start to notice annalie's disappearing?  Claire's don't look any lighter to me. It's really starting to worry me!  Thank you guys for responding!

They started getting lighter around 4 months, and then around 9 months they were 90% gone. When she gets upset and cries really hard you can still see the one on her forehead, but I think I'm the only one that notices it because I look for it!
My daughter will be 4 in December and you can still sort of see her angel kiss (sort of V shaped on her forehead). It has definitely faded significantly from when she was a baby, and I doubt most people even notice it unless they know to look for it. It does get darker, like Karen said, when she cries or gets really angry.
